Type of Applicants Sought
Hershner Hunter always seeks attorneys with superior academic abilities and experience, good judgment and interpersonal skills, motivation to grow, and the desire to live and work in our community.
Our practices cover nearly every area of business law. The firm represents a variety of businesses and industries, with clients from across the entire state. We strongly emphasize specialization as we seek to provide our clients with expertise in particular practice areas. Despite our specialization, we offer a collegial work environment. Our attorneys engage with one another across practice groups to satisfy client needs efficiently. We also provide attorneys with excellent support staff.
Located in downtown Eugene, attorneys enjoy a cosmopolitan environment with sophisticated legal work for top quality clients, outside the hectic pace of a metropolitan area. Attorney candidates at all levels of experience should address their resumes to Nicholas Frost, who manages attorney recruiting.
Nondiscrimination Policy
We are an equal opportunity employer and will not discriminate against or harass applicants or employees on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, disability, sexual orientation or on any other basis prohibited by law or not bearing on an individual’s job performance. We evaluate applicants and employees on their individual merits. Our goal is to hire and retain the most qualified individuals with the highest levels of professionalism and skill.
Compensation & Benefits
Current starting salaries for new attorneys are among the highest in Eugene, with a bonus program for eligible associates. Other benefits for associates include participation in the firm’s 401(k) plan with an employer contribution, health insurance, and bar, community, and certain social organization dues.
Training & Mentoring
We hire all of our associates with the expectation and desire that they become excellent lawyers and valued partners. To accomplish these goals, we maintain a strong commitment to training.
Our training activities for new lawyers begin with a rotation program designed to give associates exposure to the major areas of our practice and to provide a basis for their later choice of specialty. After the initial rotation, the associate and the firm jointly determine an area of practice in which the associate will obtain additional training and experience.
We provide frequent feedback to associates through supervising partners and an annual evaluation. Associates also conduct yearly evaluations of the training they are receiving from partners.
In addition to direct supervision by a partner, associates are provided with one or more mentors within the firm to provide counsel and advice in areas outside the technical practice of law, such as integration in the firm and community, professionalism and ethics, professional relationships and other similar matters.
